Hand Knotted Oriental Rugs
- An authentic oriental rug is a handmade carpet that is either knotted with pile or woven without pile. Oriental-design rugs made by machine, made through hand-tufting or any method other than hand-knotting or hand-weaving are not considered authentic oriental rugs.
- The most expensive and longest to make, hand-knotted throw rugs are traditionally made with wool or silk. The weaver loops wool or silk around the warps one at a time, creating a thick pile. Cotton yarn is then woven through the warps to hold them together.
- Hand-knotted rugs are made by tying thousands of knots to the weft (vertical) threads on a loom, which are then secured by the warp (horizontal) threads.
- Tying or knotting pile yarns around woven backing fibers (warp and weft). The resulting face of the rugs is then sheered to a pre-determined height to give the pile uniformity. The more knots per square foot the more valuable the rug.

Chobi Rugs The word "chobi" itself is Farsi for "color like wood." Our Chobis tend to have large geometric floral patterns and they are all hand knotted of hand spun wool. The dyes are made entirely from hand gathered fruits, vegetables, roots, tree barks and dried fruit shells, making Chobis the most labor-intensive of all of our carpets. Natural Dye Chobis are renowned for their lanolin-rich luster and stunning natural coloring. Their colors range from soft muted tans, browns to rich coppers, deep maroons, and sage greens. Our natural dyeing techniques have been refined over the years to ensure a natural dye that is steadfast and long-lasting.
